Commission: Public Consultation on extending the scope of the Visa Information System

The European Commission has recently published a new public consultation that may be of your interest. This survey is part of a wider process of consultation of stakeholders, feeding into a study on the legal, human rights, including data protection implications, of including residence documents and long stay visas in the Visa Information System (VIS). The study is intended to complement the findings of the technical study carried out in September 2017, by assessing the possible legal and policy justifications of the measure, in addition to the technical feasibility dimension.

The study and the consultation will eventually contribute to the impact assessment accompanying the proposal to amend the VIS legal basis by the Commission.

The public consultation will be open until 9 February 2018.
