LCIA reaches 125 years landmark and looks to the future/ 23 November 2017
23 November 2017 marks 125 years since the formal inauguration of “The City of London Chamber of Arbitration”, which evolved into the LCIA.
A new Arbitration Act was enacted in 1891 and the new institution was inaugurated in 1892, to provide for the arbitration of domestic and, in particular, trans-national commercial disputes arising within the ambit of the City of London.
It was to have all the virtues which the law was said to lack. It was to be expeditious where the law was slow, cheap where the law was costly, simple where the law was technical, a peacemaker instead of a creator of strife…
