Commission: Kosovo takes part in “Europe for Citizens” programme

Kosovo is now a participant in the “Europe for Citizens” programme.  The agreement was signed by Ms Paraskevi Michou, Director General for Migration and Home Affairs Directorate, and Ms Dhurata Hoxha, Kosovo Minister for European Integration.

The Europe for Citizens programme contributes to citizens’ understanding of the EU, its history and diversity by fostering European citizenship and improve conditions for civic and democratic participation at EU level.  Some of the projects financed by the programme raise awareness of remembrance, the common history and values of the EU and the EU’s aim – namely to promote peace, the values of the EU and the well-being of its peoples. The programme encourages the democratic and civic participation of citizens at EU level, by developing their understanding of the EU policy making-process, and stimulate interest and involvement in EU policy making.

Kosovo identified the “Europe for Citizens” programme as a key instrument to give boost to its civil society, strengthening links between municipalities from Kosovo and European Union countries and contributing to citizen’s understanding of the past to build future relations. All the countries of Western Balkans now participate in the programme which provides an opportunity to forge stronger ties between the countries of Western Balkans and EU Member States.
